I want to empathize with the Gandy Boulevard businesses that could be impacted by a link connecting the Gandy Bridge to the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway, but think about hurricane evacuations and then try to tell me we don't need improved traffic flow in that area. …

The economy doesn't spare nonprofit groups. Just ask the ones that will have to endure the city of Tampa's 20 percent subsidy reduction. Here's a possible solution: Humana Health Care is offering a one-time, $100,000 grant to local nonprofit groups. The grant, which went to the Warrick Dunn Foundation last year, will be awarded in October. Go to www.tampabaybenefits.org. …

Sometimes bumper stickers need an explanation. It turns out that chickens have been roaming around the Central Florida town of Oviedo for more than 100 years. (Sound familiar, Ybor City?)

The chickens have become an icon in the city's downtown, and actually congregate near a Popeye's restaurant.

Maybe they're protesting like the Chick-fil-A cows.
