Murman mulls run for county commission
March 27, 2010
Former state Rep. Sandy Murman said Friday she is considering a run for a seat on the Hillsborough County Commission in the November election.
Murman, a Republican and community activist, said she will decide within the next week if she will throw her hat in the ring for the District 1 seat currently occupied by Rose Ferlita, who is expected to run for mayor of Tampa in the March 2011 elections.
"I believe the county commission needs someone with experience," Murman said.
Murman served in the House from 1996 to 2004 representing District 56, which covers Harbour Island, Davis Islands, Gibsonton, Riverview, Brandon and Tampa.
Citing a lackluster fundraising campaign, Republican candidate Anne Madden bowed out of the race two weeks ago. That left Republican Trey Rustmann and Democrat John Dingfelder as the two remaining contenders for the countywide seat.
According to the most recent campaign finance filings, Rustmann has more than $17,000 in cash contributions. Dingfelder has more than $52,000 in cash contributions.
