Brandon residents will be able to ask questions Wednesday evening about a proposed one-penny-a-dollar tax for transportation projects in a teleconference with supporters of the transit plan.

The "TeleTown Hall" conference is being sponsored by Moving Hillsborough Forward, a political action committee supporting the transit tax, which will be on the ballot Nov. 2. The tax would finance light rail, road improvements, and expanded bus service.

County Commissioner Mark Sharpe and former U.S. Rep. Jim Davis will answer residents' questions during the conference from 7-8 p.m. This marks the second round of TeleTown Hall meetings. Nearly 15,000 residents countywide participated in the first round of calls early in September.

The conference will work like this: Thousands of Brandon residents will be called and given a brief introduction to the topic. They can then choose to be connected to the live conference call. All callers can ask questions and listen to other people's questions being answered.

Residents who don't get the randomly selected phone calls can dial 1-888-886-6603, and enter pass code 15537# to participate. They can also go to a live streaming Webcast at www.movinghillsboroughfor ward.org.

Members of Moving Hillsborough Forward say Brandon would see immediate improvements to the bus service and road improvements if the tax passes. Buses will run more frequently, hours of service will be expanded, and there will be more service on weekends. New local routes will serve Brandon Boulevard, Bloomingdale Avenue, and Lithia-Pinecrest Road.

Express routes will be created from Brandon to the West Shore area, University of South Florida, Citrus Park and from Gibsonton to MacDill Air Force Base. Improved connections will make it easier to travel to downtown Tampa, Tampa International Airport and Moffitt Cancer Center. Old bus stops and shelters will be replaced and new park-and-rides will be added.

Additional information on improvements in Brandon can be found at www.moving hillsboroughforward.org/ the-plan/brandon.aspx.
